ABOUT
Availya Martinez
My name is Availya Martinez and I am a native from Colorado Springs, CO. I love drawing and painting people. As a child I would draw paper dolls and gave them a variety of characteristics such as facial features, styles, and names.
When I went to Elementary school, I was unfortunate to not have any art classes. But, because of my strong art abilities they saw in me, they offered me and a few students the opportunity to take an art lessons after school. In middle school and high school, I started to take real art classes.
I attended Widefield High School and took every art class that was available including the two advanced art classes. I had placed my works of art into multiple art shows and my last year of high school I received two ribbons for my works of art. My teacher Mrs. Keenan was someone I could depend on and she granted me a scholarship opportunity with the Adduced Art Foundation.
Immediately I arrived to college at Adams State University, I intended to major in drawing but as soon as I started to paint, I realized my true passion. I enjoy painting characters like I have in the past for instance I create paintings of actors, musicians, family, friends, and animals. I strive for realism and only become more effective as I continue my implementations.
Artist Statement
My paintings explore the relationships between portraiture, humanism, and realism. As a child, I would draw paper dolls with different characteristic traits. Despite my place of learning, I became a self-taught artist. I believe humans are aesthetically fascinating to paint because everyone has their own distinctiveness and imperfections that make them beautiful.
I later became well educated on how to apply the proper painting techniques and it has changed my entire art approach. I am very passionate about painting and enjoy persuading a narrative throughout my works of art.
I specifically paint a variety of divergent characters such as comic characters, actors, musicians, animals, family, and friends. I challenge myself every time I paint, and I strive to become a realistic artist. I believe the more I practice, the more I become superior with my human characteristic paintings.
